Here’s an FYI for all my fellow whitewater enthusiasts. This is not an official trip and I will NOT be leading anyone down these rivers.
***Grade III+ - IV experience is a must, as is a bombproof roll.
September 7th - TAS
North Esk Paddle Festival
September 8th - TAS
Cataract Gorge (Release)
September 13th - TAS
The Australian Whitewater Film Festival - come watch some films, or even submit one of your own!
September 14th- TAS
The Lea Extreme Race (Grade IV)
Followed by Dinner at the Tasmanian Canoe Club, at the Forth River
October 6th - NSW
Snowy River Extreme Race, Jindabyne
There was an intermediate and advanced competition last year, not sure about this year yet. The intermediate section includes a 10m, three tier waterfall.
The Trifecta is based on participation in all three extreme races- North Esk, the Lea, and the Snowy. These rivers are all classed as Grade IV.
Once again, these are events for ADVANCED paddlers, who can roll and have an idea of safety. Races are completed in pairs.
Gear can be hired from the club rooms, and each of these events has a Facebook Page you can refer to for more information.
If you’re unsure, a guide to River classes can be found here, under Appendix B: Water Grading
