Surf kayaking is a great way to get a bit of a feel into what whitewater kayaking is like, when there isn't much whitewater on rivers at the end of summer; and down at Wilson’s Promontory it’s especially good. Tidal River/Norman bay, is a great spot with smallish waves, to introduce you to the surf; with the bonus of having the flat water Tidal River nearby to practice some of the basic skills – if you’re inclined to.
This trip will be running alongside Mona’s Discover Wilsons Promontory National Park trip – which involves single day bush walks.
So if you’re not happy kayaking you can always jump on a bush walk, or vice versa. This way you can give both a go!
As with Mona’s we’ll drive out Friday night, or Saturday morning, dependent on whose car you’re in, and then kayak (or walk) all day Saturday and Sunday, driving back Sunday evening.
If all car spaces fill up; there is always room on a bus. Leaving Friday night, getting back Sunday night - it will cost you roughly the same as driving. see -http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/parks/wilsons-promontory-national-park
We will be car camping there, so you’ll need the usual tent, sleeping bag, mat, food, chairs are always handy, etc. There are BBQ's there, so you wont even need a stove if you don't have one.
For kayaking: bathers, thermals or wetsuit ( you can hire a wetsuit from the club),
Kayak hire is $10 for day or $15 if you want to kayak both days!
Other costs include the camping fees (16$ for 2 nights), car costs, and food.
If you have any questions, you can email me rose.beagley[at]gmail.com or come along to the trip meeting the tuesday beforehand.
Hope to see you there,
Rose :D
