Thara S
Standard: Independent climbers only
Meeting: Tue, 24 Apr 2012, 7:00 pm
Requirements: There is a trip limit of 2 beginner climbers for every experienced climber. This trip is an independant climbers trip, so beginner climbers should find an experienced climber to climb with before the trip commences.
Arapiles is one of the three greatest climbing spots in Victoria. If you have climbed there before, you would realise how much work has been put into maintaining route access and cliff quality. In particular, the Pharos Gully Repair Project, one of such, is aimed to prevent further erosion and loss of vegetation along a steep track to the summit as a result of heavy usage. For a nice article, see http://osp.com.au/?p=2003
If you are keen to help preserving the best sandstone Victoria has to offer, then this is a trip for you. The idea is: we climb during the day, and for two hours on Saturday morning, we will work with VCC, CliffCare, Park Victoria and Friends of Arapiles on their conservation project.
This trip will limit to at most two beginners per one leader. So, the trip quota is subjected to the number of leaders who are willing to come. So, if you are a beginner climber, start bribing a protential leader.
Note if you join this trip, you are expected to do conservation work (approximately two hours).
