Requirements: Previous experience with both Australian scrub and multiday walks are essential.

Briefly to the top of Australia before disappearing into the untracked wilds the aim is to spend 2 days exploring the unique canyons flowing off the western slopes of the main range. The first day is a true epic involving over 2000m of vertical gain to hit the Kosciuszko peak soon on sunset, followed by camping above the tree line to catch the morning light and a lazy morning to recover. The path was originally opened as a stock route only for the drovers to discover it was too steep for the cattle to descend, these days its overgrown and largely unknown despite being the largest single ascent possible in Australia. Just as soon as reaching the top its back down into the secluded and wild south-western slopes on the hunt for an elusive hut and the myriad of canyons not often seen. With 2 days to spread out through the area and investigate the water courses both natural and man made, we're likely to come back with some amazing photos and stories to share. This is an area that had extensive modifications made to it during the snow schemes construction, but the gorges stubbornly resisted access leaving many untouched wonders. Equally, since the extensive fires of 2003 have erased much of the previous evidence of human activity and tracks in the area it is approaching a wilderness feel despite being kilometres from the most over visited peak in Australia.
