Biggest cross country ski race in the Southern Hemisphere; a spectacular tour of the Australian High Plains around Falls Creek. Slightly tentative at this point, if you're interested come talk to me over the next few weeks. There are 3 different races on the day: 42km Kangaroo Hoppet 21km Australian Birkebeiner 7km Joey HoppetYou don't need to be competitive to enter the race. The 7km event would be doable with the skis the club hires out but I recommend hiring out or getting access to some non metal-edged skating or classic skis for a more enjoyable experience. The 7km event is for anyone who has been on skis before and the 21km would be fine for experienced skiers or quite fit people. Depending if/how many people sign up there are a few option from snow camping to finding somewhere in Mt Beauty to camp or stay in cabins depending on how people feel about costs. Registration is by the 11th of August to avoid late penalties. Costs will be race registration fees of 28/50/80 depending on the race, fuel, resort entry, ski hire and accommodation.
