Standard: Beginner
Meeting: Tue, 29 Jan 2013, 7:25 pm
Requirements: Must be able to swim.
A group of us will be heading off to Port Melbourne beach from the boat sheds (near the oval and the gym in Melbourne Uni.). We'll be going through what kayaking terms mean, doing a "wet exit", and doing "T-rescues" if you find' you're comfortable — and having some fun on the bay as the sun sets. We're quite new to kayaking ourselves, so at the moment we can only run trips safely if the number of beginners we're looking after are low, however we can take a little more on the bay than we can on the river.
If you can't make this trip but wish to leave a comment here to show your interest in doing a beginner trip in the future, please do. I have a small list of absolute beginners who'd like to get out in a kayak, but we're planning to running lots of beginner trips at both the Yarra and at Port Melbourne over the next couple of months, particularly the nect couple of weeks. If you're a keen member of MUMC, but you can't log on to this website yet, then feel free to email me to show your interest in future trips:
