The annual Intervarsity Mitchell River trip is approaching!
The History:
For the past 30 years* Monash, Melbourne and La Trobe (with the occasional tag along) have spent a social weekend in the middle of September in Gippsland on the white water mecca aka the Mitchell River. The weekend is spent rafting, kayaking, pirating with various kinds of boat race.
This trip caters for all skill levels, the only requirement for rafters is to be a competent swimmer. It is a very fun weekend and you should all come along!
The plan:
is, drive down Friday night, the 18th September, and car camp at a campground (with hot showers!) mid way along the section we paddle. If you can't make it down Friday, then leaving super early Saturday may work.
Saturday's paddle is from Angusvale to the Den of Nargun and leave boats up on the flood terraces. From there it is a 15 minute walk back to the campground - warm up, cook dinner and enjoy a few beverages around a fire.
Sunday we retrace our steps to the river and paddle down to the take out at the Final Fling (III) rapid.
Estimated cost will be around 130$, this will include all the transport, rafting gear hire, all you can eat breakfast, twice, and an all you can eat dinner.
Those wishing to kayak, instead of rafting, must have kayaked with the club and be at a suitable standard (Confident II+/III).
This is a video ACU made of the trip last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_PK9mtkkdY
