Hi aspiring conservationists and paddling enthusiasts!
The first paddling-conservation trip of the season is here! Even though Yarra smells bit better than Maribyrnong, it's very dirty. Let's unload some of the rubbish while taking our rafts for a ride, they've been gathering dust for over a year! This is an 'everyone welcome trip' on mostly flat water, with the exception of the Dights Falls (we'll portage the dam and put in downstream). We'll provide gloves and bags for the rubbish. Opportunity for some wildlife viewing along the way (birds, maybe a turtle or two and we will paddle through the flying fox colony at Yarra Bend)!
Meeting point (put in): the end of Alphington St, Alphington 3078
Finish point (take out): TBC, likely Hawthorn rowing club or possibly Herring Island
Bring drinking water, weather appropriate clothing, closed toed shoes you don't mind getting wet, sunscreen and snacks/lunch and pick up the necessary paddling gear during the pre-trip meeting. Bonus points if you have a car and can help with gear transport/car shuttle!
Cost: $18/person - covers all gear hire, fuel for car shuttles and gloves & bags for picking up rubbish
Anyone on the waitlist who would still like to join the trip is encouraged to come to the pre-trip meeting as we may have a few more spaces opening up on Thursday evening.
