Heya,
Safety above any other! Anyone who intends to jump on white water paddling trips is highly encouraged to attend. This is a powerpoint theory session aimed at providing foundation for navigating white water and leading paddling trips. Everyone is welcome careless of their paddling background and experience. The presentation will take place in the MUMC club rooms. I promise I put decent effort into the slides so that I don't bore you to death ;) This theory is a prerequisite for further paddling leaders training (i. e. Whitewater Leadership Starter Course) taking place later this year.
Topics that will be covered:
- Swiftwater hydrology basics (i.e. river features)
- Hazard identification
- Risk assessment and group decision-making
- Personal and rescue equipment
- Whitewater swimming techniques and self-rescue
- Shallow-water crossings
- Throwbag technique
Reach out if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Natalie
