Standard: Everyone welcome
Meeting: Tue, 8 Nov 2016, 7:30 pm
NOTE: VRA had previously advertised this as an adventuregaine with paddling and cycling included, it looks like it is now walking only.
Between 20 and 40 volunteers are required for each rogaine event to run. Events are at risk of being cancelled if the VRA cannot find enough volunteers in time. If you would like to help, this rogaine is a good opportunity as you can compete one day and help out on the other. We have offered to send an MUMC contingent and have an MUMC social event on the Saturday night. Please comment below or email/speak to me ASAP if you are able to help out.
- Enfield State Forest, S of Ballarat. Approx 2hrs from Melbourne. 150km.
- Late fee applies after 2 Nov
- Option to enter on Saturday or Sunday. Same course, both days 6 hours.
- 8am maps available, 10am event start.
- Camping will probably be available at Hash House
- $30 entry fee ($10 late fee)
- VRA event page: http://vra.rogaine.asn.au/events/calendar/eventdetail/3/-/november-2x6-hour-bush-rogaine
HOW TO ENTER
1. These events are organised by the VRA, not MUMC. You must set up a membership account (free) with the VRA to participate. http://vra.rogaine.asn.au/
2. Come to the trip meeting on Tuesday to be teamed up and to organise transport.
3. Register your team with the VRA using your membership number before the closing date.
COST
$30 entry plus transport to and from event. MUMC refunds $10 after the event. Speak to Rogaine deputy or Treasurer for more info.
A late entry fee applies from 2 November. This fee is waived for people competing in their first rogaine.
________
WHAT IS A ROGAINE?
Normally a rogaine takes place in the bush. Teams of 2-5 people use a map and compass to find markers. Points are given for each marker that is found, more points are awarded for markers that are far from the starting point or are a navigational challenge. Teams choose their route and attempt to collect as many points as they can before returning to the starting point (Hash House) before the clock stops. In other words, a treasure hunt in the bush where the winning team wins a chocolate bar. Events are usually 6, 8, 12 or 24 hours. These events are organised by the Victorian Rogaining Association (VRA) with teams from MUMC competing in most rogaines.
WHAT TO BRING
- Water (2 litres), snacks, sun protection, pens to mark your map, comfortable closed shoes, rain jacket if bad weather. Gaiters are highly recommended.
- Compass, first aid kit, whistle. COMPULSORY. These can be hired/bought from VRA on the day.
- Camping gear if you are staying at the hash house (tent, sleeping bag, roll mat, warm clothes, breakfast food etc)
HASH HOUSE
The Hash House is starting point of the rogaine. It is the site of the admin, first aid and food tents.
HASH HOUSE FOOD
All rogaines are catered. Meals typically consist of BBQ sausages. Hamburgers, Vegie burgers, Stews and Soups, Also desserts with Tea, Coffee & Milo available. Bring your own Plate, Bowl, Cup Cutlery and Chair.
