Looking to have a bit of everything of a hike? The southwest section loop of Lerderderg Gorge looks like a good one, and I'm keen to try it. It has bits of rock hopping, river crossing, sneks, rock scrambling, bush bashing for navigation, etc., just right for you to have experience, but not so much that you'd never do hiking ever again due to PTSD. The standard for this trip is intermediate: Almost everyone can do it, but self-preparation needs a step up!
Here's the schedule:
- 7:30am: Meet at MUMC Clubroom and depart.
- 8:45am: Arrive at the trailhead and start the hike.
- 11am: Lunch at Lerderderg River
- Around 2pm: Finish the hike and we then head back.
- Around 3-5pm (traffic dependent): Arrive at the clubroom and say goodbye.
What to note:
- Bring plenty of water (2-3L is a safe choice), snacks and electrolytes to prepare for the uphill.
- Consider having hiking poles for high ascents, and suitable clothing to dip your legs in the water.
- Stay close together. This track is known to have a lot of routes and overgrown areas, and you can get lost easily.
- After Tuesday's trip meeting to confirm who's going, I will hand out further details in the email. If you cannot make it on Tuesday but still wanna go on Wednesday, just shoot me an email.
- On Tuesday's meeting bring $50 cash for gear rent!
P/s 1: Also, don’t worry if you are on the waitlist. Most ‘committed’ usually evaporates near the meetup date. You will have 70% chance of getting the spot when attending the meeting.
P/s 2: I am also a slow-paced hiker, so don't worry if you feel slow.
