[reschedule as had to suspend last week]

Let's go for a walk up one of Melbourne's most iconic mountains!

Mt Macedon is a 1000m high mountain to the northwest of the city. We're going to walk a 6km track from Macedon train station to the peak of the mountain, an ascent of about 500m [see this map]. We'll have lunch at the top, then decide if we follow the same path down (most direct route) or if we have energy to return a different way via a 10km loop [see this map]. So the walk will be between 12-16km and include an ascent / descent of 500m. This is a considerable climb and so participants are required to have had prior bushwalking experience and to be generally fit.

Here's the plan:

8:50: Meet at Southern Cross Station

9:05: Catch train to Macedon station

10: start walk.

~Midday: lunch then walk back to the station.

In the afternoon, trains run back from Macedon to Southern Cross at 24 minutes past every hour. We'll likely arrive back to the city at 4:30 depending on our roiute and how quickly we decide to walk.

There's also a pub at Macedon and, as this is a public transport trip, we'll be able to make use of the $5 Human Powered Trip discount there if we like.

Attendance at the club meeting the previous Tuesday (14 May) is a requirement of coming on this trip.

Let me know if you have questions and hope to see you then!
