Backcountry Skiing Leadership

The club has a new fleet of AT skis and are looking to commence training of leaders so we can run winter trips! 

What: Leader training for backcountry skiers. The course will cover everything to do with running trips in the backcountry. Trip planning, Route-finding, Equipment familiarisation, Skinning, Basic navigation, Emergency situations, Awareness & Safety. This course is not intended to improve your skiing. Participants should already be competent skiers (ie. skis on black runs , or very confident on blue runs).

When: Dates to be confirmed, but likely in July w/e 19-21st or 26-28th . Will conduct a survey with participants.

Location: will be determined based on conditions and skill of the group. Potentially Falls Creek (camping) or Feathertop (camping at MUMC hut). 

Costs: The cost for training will be ~$380. The club is able to allocate training grant funding (up to $190) if participants become ski leaders in the club and run some club trips (win for everyone). Other costs will include food, car entry permit, chains, parking (if applicable), petrol. 

The training trip is limited to either 5 or 10 people (depending on interest). Priority will be given to experienced skiers and active club members. Gender inclusivity will also be a priority.
