Standard: Intermediate
Meeting: Tue, 15 Oct 2024, 7:00 pm

Join us for two days of sport climbing in the Gariwerd/Grampians region!

We’ll finalise plans once we have the group locked in, but the trip will likely follow this schedule:

  • Day 1: Leaving from the clubrooms around 7 AM on Wednesday morning. We’ll drive to Mt Stapylton Campground and walk to a nearby crag. After a day of climbing, we’ll return to the campground for the night and rest up for another full day of climbing.
  • Day 2: On Thursday, we’ll climb until around 4-5 PM, then drive back to Melbourne, aiming to be back by 8-9 PM.

Possible crags we may visit include West Flank, Sentinel Cave, I Forget Walls, and possibly the Watchtower. Crag selection will depend on the group’s climbing ability and will be finalised at the Tuesday meeting.

Participant requirements:

  • You must be ticked off in the club framework.
  • At a minimum, you must be a Seconder.
  • If you’re a Seconder, you can join but won’t be allowed to lead climb.
  • If you’re a Probationary ILC or higher, you can come and lead climb.

Not sure if this is the correct trip for you? Send the Ropes Officer an email at or check the MUMC Climbing Framework documents on the Rock Climbing page of the MUMC website.

Gear:

Since we'll be camping, you’ll need all the essential camping gear, including a tent, sleeping bag, cooking equipment, etc. As for climbing gear, at a minimum, you’ll need climbing shoes, a helmet, and a harness. Ideally, you should also bring a rope, belay device, quickdraws, and a personal anchor system (PAS).

Climbing and camping gear can be hired from the club on Tuesday night (see the gear hire page for costs). For any gear-related questions, contact Riley.

Costs:

Fuel will be split between participants, and we’ll discuss individual/shared dinner plans at the meeting.

Due to leader-to-participant ratios, spots on this trip will be limited, and some seconders may not be able to attend depending on the number of leaders available. If there’s enough interest, we aim to run more trips in the future!

If we suspect it's going to be wet or rain, we'll relocate somewhere else/make alternate plans.
