Located 2 hrs from the city, this is definitely one of the best day trips around Melbourne.
We'll kick things off at the Sugarloaf saddle carpark where we'll head straight up to Sugarloaf peak. This section includes a tight squeeze through Wells cave and some exposed rock scrambling on the way up. On the peak we'll be able to enjoy beautiful panoramic views with our lunch.
After refuelling, we'll head along the Razorback Track to South Jawbone Peak and then descend to Jawbone Car Park. Rounding out the hike is a 3.5km walk along Cerebrus Rd ensuring that if you weren't tired before then you certainly will be now.
This 9km hike features 540m of elevation gain involving steep, exposed rock sections and scrambling on the ascent to Sugarloaf peak. The trail may be muddy depending on the weather.
Schedule:
8am: Meet at MUMC clubrooms
10:30am: Arrive at Sugarloaf Saddle Carpark
~12:30am: Lunch at Sugarloaf Peak
~4-5pm: Drive back to clubrooms
Cost: Expected to split fuel costs with driver
For drivers be aware that the last 8km of driving to sugarloaf saddle carpark is on a dirt road. It is usually well maintained and is drivable but drive slowly to avoid any potholes.
Note:
- Currently the participant limit is 5 but I'll extend it to 10 if someone else has a car as well.
- The trip meeting will be held on zoom Wed 02/04/2024 at 6pm.
For more info, checkout the trail on AllTrails (we'll take Well's cave and not the canyon track from sugarloaf saddle carpark):
